October is the month of celebrating all things Pinotage. And at Brampton Wine Studio, we are showing our love for South Africa’s favourite home-grown grape all month long with exciting special offers and mouthwatering food and wine pairings.

If unlike us, you are new to its fan club, the Pinotage story goes like this: It was created in 1925 by professor Abraham Izak Perold at Stellenbosch University. It is a cross between Hermitage and Pinot Noir, and Perold intended to combine the best qualities of the robust Hermitage with Pinot Noir, a grape that makes great wine but is notoriously difficult to grow. The result was quite spectacular, we reckon!

The Brampton Pinotage is an abundant, full expression of what makes the variety so alluring. It has a bright red and blackberry aroma and juicy flavours of mulberry, raspberry and cherry. Well-integrated tannins add intensity and silkiness, backed by the tobacco spiciness typical of Pinotage, and a fresh, lingering finish rounds off the taste encounter.

Like all great Pinotages, it is a wine that loves the company of food and is very versatile. And the tasty tapas and famous flatbreads at Brampton Wine Studio do just the trick. Italian food, pulled pork, roast beef, chocolaty desserts are also excellent matches. A medium-bodied, slightly chilled Pinotage can even be paired successfully with fresh line fish and sushi.
